Day 1 : Arrival in Nairobi
Upon landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your Nairobi hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, recovering from your journey or exploring some of the city’s attractions, such as the Karen Blixen Museum or Nairobi National Museum (optional activities). In the evening, return to your hotel to rest in preparation for the exciting safari days ahead.
After breakfast, depart Nairobi and travel south toward Amboseli National Park. As you drive, watch the cityscape fade into rolling plains and, eventually, the vast open savannah at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in Amboseli in time for lunch, followed by a short rest. In the late afternoon, set out on your first game drive across the park’s dusty tracks and wetlands. Here, you’ll encounter Amboseli’s famous elephants, along with zebras, giraffes, and a variety of bird species. By sunset, return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay, with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro in the background (weather permitting).

Rise early for a sunrise game drive, when the soft morning light illuminates Amboseli’s marshes and plains. Elephants often traverse the swamps, providing excellent photographic opportunities. Watch for predators like lions and cheetahs stalking their prey in the distance. Return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by some leisure time to enjoy the facilities or simply relax. After lunch, head out for your afternoon game drive. You’ll explore more of Amboseli’s varied landscapes, including acacia woodlands, scrub brush, and marshlands teeming with hippos and wading birds. As evening falls, return to your accommodation for a delicious dinner and a second night under the watchful gaze of Kilimanjaro.

Enjoy one last breakfast in Amboseli before departing northward for Lake Naivasha, located in Kenya’s segment of the Great Rift Valley. The drive offers scenic views of the rolling countryside and dramatic escarpments. Arrive at Lake Naivasha by midday, check into your lodge or camp, and savor lunch overlooking the tranquil waters. In the afternoon, you have the option of taking a boat ride on the lake, gliding past hippos and a variety of bird species, such as fish eagles and kingfishers. For those seeking additional adventure, a guided walking safari on Crescent Island can be arranged (additional cost). Conclude your day with dinner and an overnight stay near the lake’s edge.

Following breakfast, set off for the short drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive around midday and proceed to your lodge or camp for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive around the lake’s shores, famed for their seasonal flamingos and other birdlife. Lake Nakuru is also a sanctuary for both black and white rhinos, and you may spot them grazing along the lakeside or resting under the shade of acacia trees. Keep an eye out for leopards lounging in the tree branches and the occasional lion patrolling its territory. As evening approaches, return to your lodge for a hearty dinner and a restful night.

After an early breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru and continue your journey through the Rift Valley toward the Masai Mara National Reserve. As you approach, the landscape transitions to sweeping savannahs dotted with flat-topped acacia trees. Arrive at your camp or lodge in time for lunch, then venture out on an afternoon game drive. The Masai Mara teems with wildlife—spot herds of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles, and keep an eye out for predators like lions and cheetahs. Before dusk, return to your accommodation for dinner, ending the day amid the reserve’s magical atmosphere.

Awaken before dawn for an optional hot air balloon safari (additional cost) or set out on a morning game drive in the cool hours when wildlife is most active. If visiting during the Migration season (typically July to October), you may be fortunate enough to witness wildebeests and zebras braving river crossings. Return to camp for breakfast and some relaxation. After lunch, head out once again to explore the Masai Mara, scanning the plains for elephants, buffalos, giraffes, and various big cats. Conclude your final full safari day back at your lodge or tented camp, where you can share stories of the day’s sightings over dinner.

Set out on one last morning game drive in the Masai Mara to capture any wildlife viewing opportunities you may have missed. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and gather your belongings for the drive back to Nairobi. Arrive in the city by mid to late afternoon, where you will be dropped off at your Nairobi hotel or at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in time for your onward flight. This marks the end of your Kenyan safari, having explored Amboseli’s iconic elephants, the serene Rift Valley lakes, and the legendary Masai Mara.

Our holiday was coordinated by Beverly Akivaga. This lady is a legend, she can do it all. When my wife and I were hoping to combine a business trip with a 30th Anniversary holiday through Kenya (the place of our honeymoon) and Tanzania, we wanted to use an African owned business. We were recommended to try African Hartebeest.
