Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your Arusha hotel. Unwind after your journey, and if time allows, take a brief tour of Arusha town. In the evening, you’ll have a safari briefing to discuss the days ahead.

Depart Arusha after breakfast for Tarangire National Park, a two-to-three-hour drive through scenic countryside. Enter the park for an afternoon game drive where you might spot herds of elephants grazing beneath the shade of giant baobab trees. Watch for lion prides, zebras, and giraffes, all set against Tarangire’s characteristic rolling savannah. After your game viewing, retire to a nearby lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, travel to the shores of Lake Eyasi. The day’s highlight is your visit to the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities in East Africa. Join them on a morning hunt, learn how they use bows and arrows, and observe their distinctive bushcraft skills. Later, spend time with the Datoga tribe, known for their traditional blacksmithing. By late afternoon, check into your lodge or camp near Lake Eyasi, where you’ll enjoy dinner and overnight amid this unique landscape.

Depart Lake Eyasi in the morning, heading to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the famous crater for a half-day game drive, witnessing an astonishing variety of animals, from lions and hyenas to zebras and black rhinos. Pause for a picnic lunch near a hippo pool before ascending the crater walls. In the late afternoon, proceed to your lodge on the crater rim or in the highlands for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive toward the Serengeti, possibly stopping at Olduvai Gorge to learn about early hominid fossils discovered there. Entering the Serengeti, you’ll immediately embark on an afternoon game drive across the vast plains. Keep your camera ready for cheetahs scanning the horizon, lions stalking their prey, and countless hoofed animals dotting the landscape. As dusk settles, arrive at your safari lodge or tented camp for dinner and a night surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Spend the day exploring the Serengeti in depth. Early morning is prime time for spotting predators on the hunt, while the late afternoon offers magical golden light for photography. In between, enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the wilderness. Depending on the season, you may witness part of the wildebeest migration as it traverses the plains. Return to your lodge or tented camp for a final evening in this extraordinary park.

Should time allow, fit in one last morning game drive before leaving the Serengeti. You will either drive back to Arusha through scenic landscapes or take a scheduled flight (additional cost). Upon arrival in Arusha, transfer to your hotel or directly to the airport for your onward journey, marking the end of an enriching safari that beautifully blends wildlife and cultural experiences.

Our holiday was coordinated by Beverly Akivaga. This lady is a legend, she can do it all. When my wife and I were hoping to combine a business trip with a 30th Anniversary holiday through Kenya (the place of our honeymoon) and Tanzania, we wanted to use an African owned business. We were recommended to try African Hartebeest.
