Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha

Welcome to Tanzania! Upon your arrival at Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing, recovering from your flight, or exploring the nearby markets. In the evening, a safari briefing will prepare you for the remarkable journey ahead.

Set off from Arusha after breakfast and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Enter the park for an afternoon game drive, navigating through its diverse ecosystems of groundwater forest, open grasslands, and the soda lake itself. Watch for tree-climbing lions resting on branches and flocks of flamingos along the shore. By evening, check into your lodge for dinner and a peaceful night’s sleep.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the crater, where you’ll discover a breathtaking concentration of wildlife, including lions, buffalos, and black rhinos. Stop by a hippo pool for a picnic lunch amid the abundant fauna. In the late afternoon, ascend the crater walls and proceed to your lodge overlooking the majestic caldera for dinner and overnight accommodations.

After breakfast, journey to the iconic Serengeti National Park, passing through the rolling hills of the Ngorongoro highlands. Upon entering the Serengeti, savor an afternoon game drive, seeking out prides of lions, cunning cheetahs, and roaming herds of wildebeests and zebras. Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in time for dinner and a memorable evening under the African stars.

Today is dedicated to exploring the Serengeti’s endless plains. Depart early for a sunrise game drive, capitalizing on prime predator activity. After a picnic lunch in the bush, continue your search for the Big Five and, depending on the season, catch glimpses of the legendary Great Migration. Return to your lodge or tented camp before sunset for dinner and another restful night in the wilderness.

Wake up early for breakfast, then depart the Serengeti for Tarangire National Park, known for its dense elephant population and centuries-old baobab trees. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive, spotting elephants cooling off in the Tarangire River. Predators like lions and leopards also roam these landscapes. As dusk settles, head to your lodge within or near the park for dinner and an overnight stay.

Spend two exciting days exploring Ruaha’s raw and rugged terrain, which offers some of Tanzania’s most spectacular big-game viewing. Morning and afternoon game drives will reveal large herds of elephants, prides of lions, and if you’re fortunate, the elusive leopard. The park’s Great Ruaha River is a lifeline for countless animals, making for high-action predator-prey interactions. Evenings can be spent swapping safari stories over dinner back at your lodge or camp.

Spend the day at your leisure, whether basking on the beach, swimming in crystal-clear waters, or exploring Stone Town’s narrow alleys and rich heritage. For adventure seekers, optional activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, or spice tours can be arranged. Return to your resort for dinner and overnight.

This is another full day to indulge in the beauty of Zanzibar. You may opt to take a dhow cruise at sunset, visit Jozani Forest to see the red colobus monkeys, or simply lounge by the shore with a cool drink in hand. Soak up the island’s laid-back charm before your final night in this tropical paradise.

Savor a leisurely breakfast by the ocean, then spend the morning at your resort or shopping for souvenirs. At the appointed time, transfer to the airport for a flight back to Arusha or directly to your onward destination. This marks the conclusion of a fulfilling safari and beach adventure that combines the best of Tanzania’s wildlife and coast.

Our holiday was coordinated by Beverly Akivaga. This lady is a legend, she can do it all. When my wife and I were hoping to combine a business trip with a 30th Anniversary holiday through Kenya (the place of our honeymoon) and Tanzania, we wanted to use an African owned business. We were recommended to try African Hartebeest.
