Maasai Mara is world famous for exceptional population of amazing wildlife. Currently, It is rated as one of the world's most spectacular natural events - every year over a million wildebeest, zebra and antelope migrate clockwise around the Serengeti/Masai Mara ecosystem searching for food and water.
You will arrive at Olkiombo Airstrip and find a friendly and experienced Maasai guide waiting ready to take you on your very first Game Drive! You will set off in one of our open and tailor-made 4x4 Safari Land Cruisers. During your drive you will be introduced to the Guest of Honour of the Great Migration: Mr Wildebeest himself. Perhaps not the cleverest or cutest creature on the planet, the wildebeest is nevertheless the star of the largest get-together of large mammals on the planet. Also known as a gnu, these odd-looking beasts have an essential part to play in the Mara-Serengeti Ecosystem. Even their dung has significant value; 60,000 tons worth of fertilizer.
At around 4pm, you stroll across our private suspension bridge to meet your Maasai Guide for your Afternoon Game Drive. As the temperature cools in the late afternoon, the predators of the Mara start preparing for the evening hunt. For the Big Cats - the lions, the cheetah and the leopards - the Migration Season is a time of abundance. The vast amount of available prey allows the cats to grow strong, and produce healthy offspring. During your Afternoon Game Drive you will witness how the constant battle for survival makes the Migration Season a particularly exhilarating time to visit Basecamp Explorer Kenya. As the sun sets you will return to camp for dinner, followed by stargazing and story-time around the fireplace. When you’re ready, one of our Maasai night guards – known as Askaris - will escort you back to your tent, where you will be lulled to sleep by the sounds of chewing wildebeest and singing grasshoppers. You will spend your night at Basecamp Masai Mara

Your next destination is Eagle View Camp, which in 2013 made the National Geographic Travellers Magazine’s list of the twenty-five top eco-lodges in the world– the only one in Kenya. At 4 pm meet your Maasai Guide for your Afternoon Game Drive. Eagle View is situated inside Naboisho Wildlife Conservancy, a 20,000 hectare (50,000 acres) large nature conservancy leased directly from more than 500 Maasai families. Inside Naboisho the number of vehicles permitted is strictly limited.
This has the double advantage of attracting a wide array of species as well as creating a more exclusive viewing experience for tourists. Inside Naboisho you will encounter the Northern Migration of wildebeest, the not-so-distant relative of the wildebeest migrating from the Serengeti that you meet in the National Reserve. The wildebeest of the Northern Migration walk down from the Lloita Plains in the North in search of fresh grass and water, exactly like their southern relatives. As you drive, enjoy the varied landscape of Naboisho, presently offering the highest densityof lions on the planet. You will spend your night at Eagle view.
You will wake up to the rising sunshine and prepare for the Morning Game Drive, followed by a picnic breakfast on the savannah. Explore Naboisho together with your Maasai Guide, who will tell you more about the importance of private conservancies for the protection of the Greater Mara Ecosystem and the Maasai people. After your Game Drive visit the students at Koiyaki Guiding School, a capacity-building institution supported by Basecamp Explorer.
Round off your Afternoon Game Drive with a Basecamp Sundowner on the savannah. Drive back to Eagle View in the dark. Your guide will equip the car with infrared lights to allow you to spot the nocturnal animals of Naboisho. A Night Safari is an exhilarating experience, only to be enjoyed inside private conservancies like Naboisho. You will spend the night at Eagle View
You will wake early in the morning to join your Maasai Guide on a Morning Walking Safari across the savannah. Walking alongside the Maasai is an unforgettable experience, which perfectly echoes the wanderings of the wildebeest. On your walk your guide will show you the finer details of the savannah, including wildlife footprints and dung. Your walk finishes at Wilderness Bush Camp, the next stop on your journey through the Basecamp Circuit. We like to think that moving through the Basecamp Circuit mimics the migratory routes of the wildebeest. It is both a physical and a mental journey that will broaden your horizon and deepen your understanding of the wild – and of yourself.
Wilderness Bush Camp is our tribute to safari as it was meant to be. Tucked away deep inside the incomparable Saddle Valley, it is just you, the Maasai, the wildlife, and the stars – absolutely no unnecessary distractions. After a midday relaxation join your Maasai Guide for an Afternoon Walk or Game Drive, returning to camp in time for a three-course dinner served to you in the middle of the wilderness. After dinner, gather around the fireplace to listen to the sweet voices of Maasai singing as you reflect on the experiences you encountered during the day. You will spend the night at Wilderness Camp
You will wake up early in the morning, after breakfast prepare for your Full Day Walking Safari. Walk beside the Maasai exactly as their people have been doing for generations. Much like the wildebeest, the Maasai are nomads who walk the savannah in search of food and water for their livestock. As the day gets warmer your guide will choose a suitable Acacia Tree, under which you can relax and refuel on a packed lunch. When the temperature cools down you will continue your walk. Like the wildebeest, the Maasai walk in rhythm with nature. In the evening you will return to the camp for dinner and overnight stay. You will gather around the fire and share interesting stories before sleeping.
