Once you have changed, your guides will give you the safety briefing explaining what happens if you fall out the raft and how to paddle.
The Tana River is a pool drop river offering an exciting day of white water rafting. Depending on water levels you may raft 8-16km of river. The full trip starts with 3 km of easy class II and III white water, with plenty of opportunity to gain practice in the paddle skills required to run the lower part of the river. A 6 km section follows with an hour or so of relaxation to view the abundance of bird life around. Here you can cool off with a swim in the warm water. The final 7 km of river back to the campsite starts with some easy class III water where paddle commands are gone over again. It is now the 3 big rapids (class 4 and 5) with names like Captains Folly, Can of Worms (because of its four 90 degree bends in succession), and Sphincter Flexor.
Subject to water levels you may be able to “surf” in the “fish-eye” hole then swim the next couple of minor rapids. Numerous smaller rapids bring one to the class 5 Spasm, a series of drops over a ¾ km section with a big surprise half way through! From here a 15 minute float brings you back to the camp site. Wake up to the beautiful sunshine and sweet voices of birdlife. After breakfast, join your safari driver-guide and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Lake Nakuru, a shallow and alkaline lake on the bed of the Great Rift Valley, has earned its fame as the home of the greatest bird spectacle in the world - flocks of often more than a million pink flamingos which seasonally use its waters to feed on the abundant algae which thrives in its shallow warm waters. Although the flamingo are the most obvious, other inhabitants of the alkaline lake include black-winged stilts, avocets and in the European winter a mass of ruffs.
Lake Nakuru National Park has a great deal to offer. Beside its magnificent bird life, it is also a rhino sanctuary and one of the best places in the country to see both black and white rhino. The park is also home to lion, leopard, buffalo and other plains and forest game who have made it their permanent and protected habitat. In the evening you will be taken to Sarova Lion Hill lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
The beautiful voices of birdlife will wake you up in the morning. After breakfast at the lodge you will be driven to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge. Upon arriving you will be taken to the lodge for dinner and refreshing. Once rested go on an afternoon boat ride and visit the Crescent Island. Crescent Island is a private Wildlife Sanctuary on the eastern side of Lake Naivasha. Surrounded by water, the island is actually a peninsula that is accessible by boat as well as by road. There are more animals here per acre than any other Kenyan park. Visitors can walk freely among the giraffe, zebra, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles, waterbuck, eland and a great many bird species. Don’t miss walking along the ridge in the ‘golden hour’ before sunset to watch the animals grazing against the backdrop of shimmering water.
Cruise through floating hippos and listen to the shrill cry of the fish Eagle while on a boat ride excursion on Lake Naivasha. It is Kenya’s second largest fresh water lake and as such it plays host to a massive number of birds including kingfishers, herons, pelicans, fish eagles among many others. The boat ride provides an excellent opportunity to not only watch but also photograph the birds up close in a stunning and tranquil environment. In the evening you will return to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
You will wake up to the beautiful sunshine and start preparing yourself for the next adventure. After breakfast at the hotel you will be driven to Hell’s Gate National Park. An excellent spot for rock climbing & nature walks. Hell's Gate National Park lies to the south of Lake Naivasha. The park is a savannah ecosystem and harbors a wide variety of wildlife. There are over 100 species of birds in the park, including vultures, verreaux's eagles and augur buzzards. The African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson's gazelle and baboons are also common. The park is also home to the klipspringer antelope and chandler's mountain reedbuck.
Go mountain biking among the wildlife in the park and then rock climbing up the rock formations the park has come to be known for. In the evening you will return to Naivasha Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Wake up in the morning and start preparing for the next exciting destination. The jewel in Africa's crown, Masai Mara is host to the most spectacular array of wildlife. Her 1,510 square kilometers of open savannah, woodlands and tree-lined rivers creates an eco-system which supports huge numbers of bird and mammal species. The western border of the park is the spectacular Siria Escarpment and together with the acacia dotted plains, creates scenery of stunning beauty. Lion are found in abundance throughout the park as are elephant, giraffe, a variety of gazelle species and zebra. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly seen and, if lucky, you may also find rhino. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings: a pride of lion stalking their prey; a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree; male wildebeest sparring to attract females into their harem; or even a herd of elephant protecting their young from opportunistic predators.
